My wife, Jennifer, and I were married in 1998 and God has blessed us with an ever-growing marriage and two wonderful children. We are both from South Carolina and come from big, loving, Southern families. We pray continually that our family will increasingly reflect Christ to the world around us and that we can lead others to discover the Lord we serve. Jennifer is a nurse, taking care of moms and babies. It is her ministry more than her occupation. I am a seminary student with New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary finishing a masters with eyes set on a Ph.D.

In 2005, we moved to New Orleans to continue seminary and got there just in time for Katrina. After evacuating, our daughter, Macayla, was diagnosed with Battens Disease, a fatal brain disorder which has no cure or treatment. I stayed at home to provide her care while Jennifer worked. Macayla died on her ninth birthday in 2010. During her battle with this condition, I sought answers in light of a disturbing text in 2 Samuel 12:15. What started as a personal Bible study turned into a book called The Lord Struck the Child: The most Chilling Phrase in the Bible Leads us to Hope and Freedom. The book is used to raise funds for ministries that care for "the least of these." To learn more about Macayla and even the book, check out www.smoaksignal.com
Our prayer is that this website and blogs will help special-needs families, both their physical and spiritual needs. So, really our prayer is this site will help us all with our special need for Christ. This journey has made it so I am currently not on staff at a church and as such, available for speaking.
Feel free to contact me and thank you for stopping by.
I have been crucified with Christ ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himselfup for me. - Galatians 2:20
